Delayed Reveal Photo Sharing: Control When Guests See Event Photos

Most shared albums show every photo the moment it is uploaded. Delayed reveal photo sharing works the other way round: guests add photos during the event, the host reviews them, and the whole gallery opens for everyone at a time the host chooses.

What delayed reveal photo sharing is

Event Capsule is a private event photo sharing platform with a delayed reveal. Guests join from a QR code or link in their phone browser, upload photos during an upload window, and see nothing from other guests until the reveal time. At the reveal, the approved photos appear together in one gallery, with a slideshow and a full-resolution download. It works like a disposable camera for a whole event: everyone contributes, and nobody sees the results until the film is developed.

How it works

Guests upload during a window

You set when uploads open and close. Guests scan the QR code, enter a name, and add photos in the browser with no app.

The capsule stays sealed

Before the reveal, guests see the opening time and a running photo count, never other guests' photos.

You review as photos arrive

Hide, delete, or restore uploads from the host dashboard. Only approved photos reach the gallery.

Everyone sees it together

At the reveal time the gallery, slideshow, and full-resolution download unlock for everyone with the link.

Why delay the reveal?

  • No spoilers. Guests stay in the moment instead of scrolling a live feed, and the couple or guest of honour sees everything fresh.
  • Curate before sharing. Blurry shots, accidental screenshots, and anything that should stay private can be hidden before anyone else sees them.
  • A shared moment. Opening the gallery together, at a brunch, a closing session, or on a screen, becomes part of the event.

The trade-off is that guests cannot browse each other's photos during the event. If you want a live photo wall on a screen while the party is happening, a delayed reveal is not the right fit.

Set the times carefully

The upload window and the reveal time are separate. Uploads always close by the reveal at the latest, and they can close earlier: for example, uploads end when the party does and the reveal happens the next morning. An upload window can span up to seven days, and times follow the event's own timezone, so guests travelling in from elsewhere see the right local moment.

Both times are set when you create the event and cannot currently be edited from the host dashboard afterwards, so check them, including the timezone, before you confirm. Our help article explains how the upload window and reveal time work.

Examples

Wedding

Open uploads after the ceremony and close them at the end of the reception. Set the reveal for the next morning, review the photos over coffee, and play the slideshow at the farewell brunch.

Corporate retreat or offsite

Run one upload window across a multi-day offsite so teams in different sessions and locations add photos as they go. Review everything before the reveal, then open the gallery at the closing session or on the first day back, with the slideshow on the main screen.

Birthday or party

Let guests upload through the evening and reveal the gallery the next day, when everyone has slept and wants to relive the night.

Delayed reveal FAQ

What is delayed reveal photo sharing?

Guests upload photos to a shared event gallery that stays sealed until a reveal time the host chooses. Nobody sees anyone else's photos until then, and everyone sees the approved collection together when it opens.

Can guests see other guests' photos before the reveal?

No. Before the reveal, guests see the opening time and a running photo count, plus thumbnails of the photos they added themselves in their current session. Other guests' photos stay hidden until the reveal.

Can I review photos before everyone sees them?

Yes. The host can review uploads from the dashboard as they arrive, hide or delete anything unsuitable, and restore hidden photos later. Only approved photos appear in the gallery, slideshow, and download.

Can I change the reveal time after creating the event?

Not from the host dashboard at the moment. The upload window and reveal time are set when the event is created, so check both, including the timezone, before you confirm.

How long can the upload window be?

An event's upload window can span up to seven days, so it works for a weekend away, a multi-day offsite, or a wedding with events on several days. Uploads always close by the reveal time at the latest.

Can the host download photos before the reveal?

No. Before the reveal, hosts review reduced-resolution previews. Full-resolution downloads unlock at the reveal time for hosts and guests alike.
